Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (July 30, 2024) – Tim Estenson recorded a runner-up result last Wednesday to kick off a three-race week.
Estenson advanced from fourth to second place in a heat race before he placed second in the Midwest Sprint Touring Series 410 Sprint Cars main event at Hamilton County Speedway in Webster City, Iowa.
“We went in green trying to figure out how to get the best finish we could,” he said. “We were able to pass in the heat race to be the high-points guy for the feature redraw. There were only nine cars, but some quality drivers. We were lucky to draw the No. 2 and we started next to Austin McCarl. It was all about the start and he got a little better start. He had the preferred line into turn one. We spread out from there. We were able to catch him in traffic, but not get around him.”
The second-place outing increased Estenson’s lead in the MSTS 410 Sprint Cars championship standings.
He returned to MSTS 410 Sprint Cars competition on Friday at Jackson Motorplex in Jackson, Minn., where Estenson qualified 10th quickest in his group. A seventh-place result in a heat race was followed by a win in the B Main, transferring him into the back of the main event. Estenson gained a trio of positions to finish 18th.
“There was a lot of quality cars there at Jackson,” he said. “Our pill draw wasn’t good so that put us toward the back of Group B. We ended up 10th and lost ground in the heat race. We had to run the B Main and we were able to try some stuff. We won that and felt really good. We moved up somewhat decent early in the feature, but the track was so wide and fast it was tough to really move forward.”
Estenson leads the MSTS 410 Sprint Cars standings by 28 points with three races remaining this season.
The weekend wrapped up on Sunday at Huset’s Speedway, where Estenson timed in eighth quickest. He was fourth in a heat race to garner the 11th starting spot in the A Main.
“We drew bad again, but were able to qualify pretty good as we were eighth out of 30 drivers,” he said. “In the heat race we fell back a spot and so we missed the feature redraw. We started 11th and it went right to the fence and we got up to eighth. Toward the end of the race I did a 360 and kept it going, but lost a couple of spots. I should have stayed up top instead of searching, but at the end of the day we still went forward and the car was in one piece.”
Estenson’s 10th-place run was his 14th top 10 of the season. He is tied for third in the Huset’s Speedway championship standings – only two points out of second place – heading into the final points race.
Estenson plans to take the next couple of weeks off before resuming competition Aug. 23 at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., and Aug. 24 at Red River Valley Speedway in West Fargo, N.D., with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series. He will also compete on Aug. 25 at Huset’s Speedway.
