Thomas breaks through for 2nd 410 Fremont win

Thomas breaks through for 2nd 410 Fremont win

By Brian Liskai

FREMONT, Ohio – Cale Thomas started the 2024 racing season with a win on opening night at Fremont Speedway presented by Gill Construction. But some bad luck, a few mechanical issues and the tough competition has prevented the Fairland, Indiana driver from getting back to the Beaverdam Fleet Services Victory Lane at “The Track That Action Built.”

That changed Saturday, July 27 as the driver of the Jay Kiser Racing 410 sprint car held off a late race challenge from Kalib Henry to score his second win of 2024 at Fremont Speedway on S&S Hauling and Excavating/Sandusky Bay Remodeling/Commercial Glazing Systems Night. Thomas led all 30 laps of the Fort Ball Pizza Palace feature to pocket the $4,000 pay check for his third career Fremont victory. Thomas hasn’t finished out of the top 10 all season long at Fremont and now has six overall victories in the 2024 racing season.

The win also pads Thomas’ lead in the All Pro Aluminum Cylinder Heads/Kistler Racing Products Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by the Baumann Auto Group. Behind Thomas at the checkers were Kalib Henry, Trey Jacobs, Nate Dussel and Tyler Street rounding out the top five.

“I was glad to get some clean air there (during a red with 10 laps to go) and put 10 consistent laps there. I definitely didn’t want to make a mistake and him (Henry) pounce on me. I just used all my fundamentals on this tricky slick curb and keep them behind me. I got really tight off of two and smoked the right front and right rear and I was already getting tight. I just stayed focused,” said Thomas beside his Spanky’s Pizza, Shelluke’s Bar, Automatic Fire Protection, Ohio Refrigeration, Ohio Heating, Engler Machine, BH 41, TMH Holdings, Berryman Racing Shocks, Keizer Wheels backed #23.

Sandusky, Ohio’s Bryan Sebetto took advantage of several restarts to take the lead on lap nine of the Fremont Federal Credit Union 305 Sprint feature and drove to his third win of the year at Fremont. Brenden Torok led the first seven laps of the feature that saw numerous cautions including one for himself that then handed the lead to Logan Riehl. Fifth starter Sebetto took the lead on lap nine and drove to his 28th career win at Fremont over Jimmy McGrath, Dustin Stroup, Riehl and Blayne Keckler. The victory is the sixth overall win of 2024 for Sebetto.

Jamie Miller came into the night with a big lead in the NAPA of Bryan Attica Fremont Championship Series presented by Jason Dietsch Trailer Sales points, but mechanical issues sidelined him in the feature allowing McGrath and Stroup to narrow the gap.

“I tried the top side and just wasn’t right for me and on those restarts I knew the leaders had to slow down to hit the curb right and I could drive it in really hard across the bottom. This Riehl Custom Chassis and Level engine is stout. Thanks to everyone who helps with this thing,” said Sebetto beside his Sandusky Bay Remodeling, JLH General Contractor, Sandusky Bay RV Rentals, KH Suspension, Race Ready Apparel, NAPA of Fremont, Clay Keim, Depot Pizza, CA Kustoms, Commercial Glazing Systems backed #01.

In a caution-filled 20 lap Burmeister Trophy Dirt Truck feature, Ottawa Lake, Michigan’s Steven Miller held off several challenges from Shawn Valenti to score his first career Fremont Speedway win. Valenti, Brad Stuckey, Kent Brewer and Cody Laird rounded out the top five.

“We’ve been real fast here this year. I’ve been able to qualify really well…worst I’ve qualified is fifth. I’ve run great heats…the worst I’ve finished is second. I get to the feature and bam something breaks. Finally it all came together. I have to thank my father Ron Miller and Dave Dickens who built the motor and my girlfriend Mary,” said Miller.

Fremont Speedway will be back in action Saturday, Aug. 3 with the 410 sprints, non-wing sprints and dirt trucks in action.
