(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) July 23, 2024 – In his third season behind the wheel of a Sprint Car, Randy Post established not one, but two career firsts in Akright Auto Plymouth Dirt Track Racing and Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car competition at The Plymouth Dirt Track in Plymouth, Wis. on Saturday, July 20.
Post opened his breakout night by turning in the 12th fastest qualifying lap in the 23 car field in a time of 13.793 seconds. The Oostburg, Wis. driver then lined up on the pole of the first eight-lap PDTR-MSA heat race and went on to lead every lap on the way to his first career heat race victory in the seat of a 360 Sprint Car.
The 10-car main event inversion dice roll landed Post on the pole of the 25-lap PDTR-MSA A-main. The former Street Stock competitor settled into second in the running order behind eventual race winner T.J. Smith on the opening lap of the main event.
Post maintained the runner-up spot through the first 13 laps until Ben Schmidt took over second on lap 14. As the leaders worked through thick lapped traffic, Brandon Berth snuck past to move Post to third when a red flag was displayed after Ben Schmidt hit the turn three wall and flipped on lap 18.
The final seven laps saw Justin Erickson, Alex Pokorski and T.J. Haddy slip past before Post came home with a career-best sixth place A-main showing.
“We didn’t really do a whole lot different for qualifying,” Post said. “We changed our starting stagger and just went into it with a mentality to go out and see what happens. The heat win was a first in the Sprint Car. We had a few heat wins in the Street Stock in 2021. But those didn’t feel nearly as good as this one did.
“After watching the track evolve throughout the rest of the heat races, I knew no matter what kind of track work they did, it was going to dry out,” he said. “I was hoping the track would be smooth, so we tried some new shock adjustments and a few different small adjustments to the car with a goal of finishing in the top five, while trying not to put too much pressure on getting a particular result. We just wanted to have fun and try out some new adjustments. I was very pleased with the way the race went and I was very, very pleased with the results.”
The Randy Post Racing Team will return to action with the Midwest Sprint Car Association 360 Sprint Car Series for the annual Harry Neitzel Tribute Race at the Dodge County Fairgrounds Speedway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, July 26. The Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series and IMCA Modifieds will also be in action.
Spectator gates open at 5 p.m. with warm-ups at 6 p.m. and hot laps to follow before opening ceremonies at 7:15 p.m.
Post will complete a doubleheader weekend with the Plymouth Dirt Track Racing-MSA 360 Sprint Car Series at The Plymouth Dirt Track on Saturday, July 27, which will also feature the third scheduled Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series event of the 2024 campaign at The Plymouth Dirt Track. The Sheboygan Flooring B Mods round out the card.
Grandstand gates open at 4:30 p.m. with “on-track action” scheduled to commence at 5:30 p.m.
