PETERSEN MEDIA: Back in action with his Destiny Motorsports team for two nights of action over the weekend, Brandon Wimmer scored a third place finish on Saturday night at the Earl Gaerte Classic in Plymouth, IN a night after scoring 11th and 13th place finishes during Twin-25 night at the Attica Raceway Park.
“I am very pleased in the direction we are heading,” Wimmer said. “We have gotten better every weekend we have been together, and you really cannot ask for too much more than that.”
Heat race action saw Wimmer line the Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart backed entry up in the second row.
A strong start saw Wimmer, use the high side of the speedway to muscle his way to the lead, as he won the race going away, putting him in the third row for the feature event.
Lining up in the fifth spot, Wimmer got up to the third spot in no time, as he began battling with Shane Stewart as they raced for the second spot.
With Stewart breaking at the midway point in the feature, Wimmer took over the second spot, and caught up to the leader as they raced in heavy traffic, only to have the yellow fly, stopping his progress.
On what was a very rough track, Wimmer hooked a rut on the restart, and ended up falling back to the third spot, where he would ultimately finish.
“I am thrilled we could get a third place finish on Saturday night in only our fifth or sixth race together,” he said. “Scott Benic and myself are figuring each other out, and are figuring some stuff out with our cars, and I am really looking forward to getting back to the track.”
Friday night, Wimmer and the Destiny Motorsports team were at the Attica Raceway Park for the Eric Phillips 25th Anniversary race, featuring two 25-lap feature events.
In the first feature, Wimmer lined up in the fourth spot, and got off to a rough start, as he dropped outside to the top five, and worked on keeping his machine in the top eight, as the top eight finishers were inverted to line up the second feature.
Running in the seventh spot late in the feature, Wimmer ran out of fuel, and limped across the finish line in the 11th spot, meaning he would start the second race in the 11th spot.
“We were a little off in the first feature, but I was hoping we could hold on and start in the front of the second one, but we ran out of fuel and slipped back to 11th,” he said.
“In the second feature, we just went the wrong direction with the car and ended up 13th.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
