SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (July 22, 2024) - The “Big Wheel” Scotty Thiel and Team 73 put up big numbers in their three-day King of the Wings campaign across Minnesota and North Dakota, not only concluding action with a pair of top-ten finishes, but ultimately highlighting all performances with a top-five at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, North Dakota, on Friday, July 19. Thiel, a two-time IRA winner in 2024, finished second from tenth in his top-five appearance, simultaneously attaining his eighth top-five of the season.
Impressive enough, the following evening in the second of two nights at River Cities Speedway, Thiel and Team 73 climbed from 17th to finish seventh - a head-turning rebound after an engine change forced the Sheboygan, Wisconsin, native to miss qualifying time trials.
Launching their weekend in the Land of 10,000 Lakes, Thiel kicked-off his three-race King of the Wings tour with a 12th-place performance on Thursday, July 18, doing so at Norman County Raceway in Ada, Minnesota. Despite the outcome, the Big Wheel seemed invincible at the start, leading the first 11 circuits before slipping over the outside cushion.
“First of all, I want to thank all of the teams who stepped up to help us out at River Cities. The engine change put us in a hole early, but to rebound like we did says a lot about this team. I think we had a winning car,” Thiel, ace of the Gibbsville Cheese, Professional Plating Inc, Ludwig & Sons Trucking, Total Restoration Services, Scott Thiel Builders, Lift Pro, Schmidts Landscaping, Complete Water, Iron Buffalo Saloon, GRP Motorsports, Lake Home Retreats, Elliott Family, Diamond Pools, No. 73 sprint car, said. “Overall, a pretty solid weekend considering the big picture. We hope to do a little bit better this weekend when we get back to work at Dodge County and Plymouth.”

Scotty Thiel and Team 73 will continue their 2024 campaign with an IRA Outlaw Sprint Series doubleheader in the Badger State, visiting Dodge County Fairgrounds and the Plymouth Dirt Track on Friday and Saturday, July 26-27.
