Prepping For Busy Week in Sprint Car & Midget

OKLAHOMA CITY, Okla. (07/15/24) – Ryan Timms got sweet revenge at Jefferson County Speedway over the weekend with a $10,000 USAC NOS Energy Drink Midget National Championship victory in Saturday's Riverside Chevrolet Midwest Midget Championship finale aboard his Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 67 JBL Audio Midget.

After an ill-timely caution spoiled his lead at the Nebraska oval a few years back, Timms grabbed the lead on lap 15 on Saturday night and ran away with the five-figure payday.

“Being able to move around here is really important,” Timms said in victory lane. “The line changed quite a bit. There at the beginning, it was top-dominant, and once we got to lapped traffic and my car was good enough, I was able to move around and we moved past Jade. From there on, it was just about racing my own race and getting through lapped traffic as perfectly as possible.”

Timms' busy race-week kicked off on Tuesday with an in-state visit to Red Dirt Raceway (Meeker, Okla.) to pilot Keith Kunz/Curb-Agajanian Motorsports No. 67 Midget for the USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship opener.

With the seventh annual Tuesday Night Thunder drawing 25 entries, Timms set a new track record on the first lap of his time trial session but went for a tumble on the second lap. After the crew thrashed to make repairs before the start of his heat, Ryan raced into the $4,000-to-win A-Main with a fourth-place heat finish. Moving forward again in the feature, Timms climbed two spots in the 30-lap affair to register a fourth-place finish.

On Wednesday evening at Mitchell County Fairgrounds (Beloit, Kan.), Timms’ runner-up heat showing pinned him on the eighth row for the Chad McDaniel Memorial A-Main. Wheeling his way into the top-10, Ryan advanced to a ninth-place finish.

Seeking redemption at Jefferson County Speedway (Fairbury, Neb.) on Friday, Ryan invaded the 1/5-mile oval for the two-day Riverside Chevrolet Midwest Midget Championship. In the opener, Timms followed up a heat race victory with an eighth-to-fourth run in the 30-lap feature.

Locked into the third-starting position for Saturday’s finale via his heat race performance earlier in the evening, Timms vaulted into the lead on lap 15 and controlled the remainder of the 40-lap affair to capture his ninth win of the season and the $10,000 top prize. He took the checkers ahead of Zach Daum, Cannon McIntosh, Jacob Denney, and Jade Avedisian.

Ryan is currently third in the latest USAC NOS Energy Drink National Midget Championship point standings.

Timm’s weekend concluded on Sunday with a runner-up finish in the 410 Sprint Car feature at Huset’s Speedway (Brandon, S.D.). He joined race-winner Scott Bogucki on the podium with Kaleb Johnson coming in third.
