Inside Line Promotions – KNOXVILLE, Iowa (July 2, 2024) – Kaleb Johnson nearly recorded a pair of top-10 results at Knoxville Raceway last Saturday when he did double duty at ‘The Sprint Car Capital of the World.’

Johnson’s best outing came in his own 410ci winged sprint car. He qualified 12th quickest and advanced from third to second place in a heat race and from 10th to eighth place in the main event.

“I felt it went pretty well,” he said. “Even though we went out late in qualifying we laid down a decent lap. We had a decent starting spot in the heat race and got by a car to run second. That put us starting 10th in the feature.

“I didn’t get the greatest start. And I missed the bottom a couple of times and let a few cars get by me. I used a late-race caution to my advantage to get back to eighth. All in all, it was a solid night.”

Johnson put together a strong charge while piloting a 360ci winged sprint car for Dennis Gainey.

“We qualified pretty well, but mistakes happen and we had the wrong tire on so we were disqualified,” he said. “I passed a couple of cars in the heat race. Then in the B Main I passed a couple and lucked out with some cautions.”

Johnson maneuvered from ninth to sixth place in a heat race and from ninth to third place in the B Main to transfer into the rear of the A Main.

“In the feature I was able to use the top, middle and bottom to pass cars when I needed,” he said. “Going from 23rd to 11th isn’t bad considering we got no points for qualifying.”

The run that gained a dozen spots was the second-most positions improved in the race.

Johnson will return to Knoxville Raceway this Saturday to drive for Gainey before he ventures to Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Sunday to pilot his sprint car. Johnson currently leads the championship standings at the high-banked track.
