ATCHISON, Kan.—May 15, 2013— Thrilling, breathtaking, exhilarating and spine-tingling. These are just a few of the descriptions of the racing on a weekly basis at Atchison County Raceway (ACR) in Kansas. Enter 700-horsepower winged sprint cars into the equation and the high-banked 1/5-mile clay oval dubbed “The Cage” becomes a proverbial battle royal.
This Saturday night, May 18, winged 360-sprint cars will take to the track at ACR for a full night of racing, which will be one of a handful of sprint car events this season at the track, including a couple of non-wing sprint car shows.
With the ASCS National Tour competing on Friday, May 17 at U.S. 36 Raceway in Cameron, Mo., you never know who might pop in on Saturday night to test their luck at “The Cage.” Drivers from both Kansas and Missouri are scheduled to compete at Atchison Raceway Park on Saturday night. Mitchell Moore of Edgerton, Kan., won the most recent 360-sprint car race at ACR last October and he also won at “The Cage” with the WAR non-wing series in August.
The winged 360-sprint car race on Saturday, May 18 at Atchison County Raceway will be run under ASCS Warrior Region rules and will pay $1,500-to-win and $200-to-start. A 30-lap main event is scheduled with 20 starting positions up for grabs for the winged warriors. Along with the 360-sprint cars, three classes of winged micro sprints will be in action as well.
On Saturday, May 18 at Atchison Raceway Park, the pit gates and grandstand gates will open at 5 p.m. Central, though any sprint car team arriving in the afternoon are welcome to enter the pit area to work on their cars. Hot laps are set for 7:30 p.m., with racing scheduled for 8 p.m.
Tickets for the first 360-sprint car race of the season at Atchison County Raceway are just $12 for adults (ages 16-over); $6 for those ages 11-15; with kids 10-under admitted free of charge.
