Bristol, WI – May 15, 2013. Bill and the B2 Motorsports Team headed to Minnesota this past Friday for their second weekend in a row running with the World of Outlaws as they headed to the clay covered asphalt track of the Elko Speedway in Elko, MN. The team was greeted with beautiful racing weather versus the cold, rainy weather that they left back in Wisconsin. Elko Speedway has a unique situation where the work area is located in the infield all night long, which can reap havoc for teams as they are without many spare parts and tools that are kept in their trailers. And such was the case for Bill and the team. Hot laps went well, but as Bill pulled back into the infield to get ready for qualifying, the car made a loud screeching noise as it came to a stop. After inspection, it was found that the pin on the caliper had broken allowing the brake pads to fall out and the pucks of the caliper were what was stopping the car. With no chance of getting any pads or a new pin, Bill would qualify with no brakes in the 28th quickest of the 32 cars on hand. The track also did not lead to much passing as most would finish near where they started all night except in the feature when the top of the track finally worked itself in. Bill would not transfer out of the heat and spun in the B-main trying to make something happen causing him to miss a transfer to the feature. On a side note, not all was a loss as Bill and the team were able to meet Karl Dedolph of Champion Oils on Friday night. It is always good to put a face with a name of one of the B2 Motorsport’s product sponsors and learn more about the great products that Champion Brands has to offer.
After a trip down Interstate 35, the team made their way to the Sprint Car Capital of the World on Saturday to the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA. With 51 of the best sprint cars on hand, Bill would lay down a lap that would be good enough for 40th quickest. Bill would miss the transfer to the feature in the heat race by one spot sending him and the 17B sprinter to the B-main again. Starting deep in the B-main, it would be a dog fight to get to one of the four transfer spots. The B-main was filled with several yellows and reds, and in the end the 17B would be one of a few cars to run out of fuel causing Bill to not finish and watch the feature from the trailer.
This week Bill and the B2 Motorsports team will head back to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the Interstate Racing Association on Saturday May 18th. Bill picked up the victory at the track during the series’ first visit a few weeks back by beating Mike Kertscher by .009 seconds. The following weekend will be a double header with the IRA as they will visit the Wilmot Raceway in Wilmot, WI on Saturday, May 25th and 141 Speedway in Francis Creek, WI on Sunday May 26th. Bill picked up multiple victories at both facilities during the 2012 season.
