North Platte, NE, 6/29/2024 (www.urssracing.com) - The United Rebel Sprint Car Series presented by RacinDirt.Com concluded its two-day show at Lincoln County Raceway for the Sandhills Shootout Summer Nationals.
After the heat races and redraw, Jake Martens and Koby Walters were slated to start on the front row. On the initial start, Koby Walters was able to take his #33 machine to the top side of turn 1 and pass Jake Martens. Walters started to pull away from Velasquez and Martens for a moment, but Taylor Velasquez was in hot pursuit on the high side.
Velasquez made a move out of turn 4 to take the lead away from Koby Walters, and from there the race was on. Jake Martens would make another bold move, only this time on lap four.
Martens went from third to first in just one corner and from there it was lights out for Martens 17x machine. “Man, I really had to sit up in the seat there,” said Jake after the race. “Taylor came out and started doing his Taylor things passing on the outside. So I knew I needed to sit up in the seat and get after it” Martens added.
With the win, Jake Martens was able to sweep the weekend at Lincoln County Raceway, making it Martens first double-header sweep of his career. “I really gotta give props to my crew chief Josh Jecha. He really is an unsung hero for this team and doesn't get enough credit on this team” Martens added.
The next race will be Thursday, July 11th at WaKeeney Speedway to start the URSS Speedweeks. July 12th-13th, the series makes a short trip to RPM Speedway for the WheatShocker Nationals before ending the weekend July 14th at the Bullring in LaCrosse, Kansas.
