PETERSEN MEDIA: With a rough weather system hitting Western Pennsylvania hard over the weekend, Brandon Wimmer and his Destiny Motorsports team made the call to head to the Fremont Speedway to get in at least one night of action over the weekend, and they scored a 10th place finish.
“We were supposed to be at Mercer and Lernerville for a couple of All Star Shows, but when those both rained out, we wanted to shake down a new car, so we headed over to Fremont,” Wimmer said.
With 34 cars in the pit area, Wimmer went out rather late, and timed his Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Speedmart backed entry in seventh fastest.
“I was very pleased with how we timed in, for where we went out,” Wimmer said. “Some hitters went out right at the same time as us, and we were better which was nice.”
Continuing to figure out a new car, and gel with crew chief, Scott Bennic, Wimmer started fourth in his heat, and secured a fourth place finish, on a track that was challenging to pass on, and headed to the feature event, where he started in the fourth row.
Starting in the fourth row for the feature on the slick track, Wimmer lost a couple spots right off the bat to Tim Shaffer and Dale Blaney.
Holding his own in the ninth spot, Wimmer hooked up in an entertaining battle with track regular, Craig Mintz, and lost the ninth spot, as he raced around the speedway in the 10th spot around the halfway point.
Looking to cap off his first top-ten with Destiny Motorsports, Wimmer held his own, as he conservatively scored a 10th place finish aboard his Benic Enterprises/Driver Websites backed entry.
“It was good to get a car that would respond to our changes,” Wimmer said. “Now that we have some confidence behind us, Scott and I can now focus on getting used to each other, and hopefully keep tallying good finishes.”
Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.
