Grain Valley, Missouri: Saturday night at Valley Speedway, Jack Wagner was victorious in Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Car competition to win the Bill Lawson Memorial Race sponsored by Design Source Flooring.
The (Lone Jack, Mo) racer would take a hard fought victory to win his second MWRA main event at Valley this season, and his fourth overall in this USAC series.
Wagner fell back to fourth place early in the feature, and then charged his way to the front utilizing the high line in one and two, and the middle of the track in three and four to grab the lead. Driving his JHR/WBR 77, Wagner would then have to navigate lapped traffic, and a last lap adventure where he slipped off the rim in turn two, before recovering to come home first in the Lawson Memorial over Tom Curran of (KCMO), Cody Baker (Lone Jack, Mo), Wyatt Burks, (Topeka, Ks), and Kory Schudy, (Battlefield, Mo) to complete the top five on a hot and steamy night at Valley.
Driving his TCR 11x, Curran was at the top of his game to finish second place for the second time in the series after finishing in the same position at Electric City Speedway on May 18th. While Baker had his best result of the season coming from 12th to 3rd in a brilliant drive that watched him gain momentum running the top in his THR 9H.
Wesley Smith (sixth) of (Nixa, Mo) would lead the pack of drivers finishing in positions sixth thru tenth, with early leader Luke Howard (Overland Park, Ks) running seventh, and Chad Goff (Spring Hill, Ks) advancing seven spots to run eighth.
Ninth place finisher Samuel Wagner of (Lone Jack, Mo) would take the Country Kids Day Care of Olathe “Hard Charger Award” after starting last in the twenty-two car field and advancing thirteen positions to run ninth. While Zach Clark of (Raymore, Mo) nearly duplicated that feat also coming from the last row to move from his twenty first starting spot to 10th place advancing eleven positions in the 25 lap feature.
The Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA Sprint Series will next be in action next weekend at Electric City Speedway on Friday night June 28th, and Nevada Speedway on Saturday night June 29th.
