Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (June 19, 2024) – Tyler Courtney topped a field of 55 elite sprint car drivers on Wednesday evening at Huset’s Speedway, which hosted the preliminary night of the $100,000-to-win Huset’s Hustle.

The six-figure finale of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series’ newest crown jewel event is slated for Thursday with the main gates opening at 4 p.m. and hot laps at 7 p.m.

Courtney was the third of three different leaders during the $20,000-to-win main event that kicked off the four-night BillionAuto.com Huset’s High Bank Nationals presented by MENARDS. The spectacle features two six-figure payouts with Thursday’s $100,000 Huset’s Hustle finale and the $250,000-to-win – tying a World of Outlaws record – Huset’s High Bank Nationals finale on Saturday.

“Hopefully we can be in the same spot tomorrow with a bigger check,” Courtney said. “We put ourselves in a good spot for tomorrow. That’s what tonight was all about.”

The original start of Wednesday’s 35-lap feature was called back after officials deemed leader Aaron Reutzel left early. That moved Ryan Timms to the outside of the front row for the complete restart and he took advantage, quickly powering into the top spot. Timms entered traffic on Lap 7 and held onto the lead until Sheldon Haudenschild slid in front of him in turns three and four on Lap 15.

Timms rallied right back one lap later, driving into the lead with a pass in turns three and four, before Haudenschild regained the lead on Lap 17 with a diamond move to exit turn four on the bottom.

Courtney, who started sixth, climbed into the top three by the midpoint of the feature and he passed Timms for second place on Lap 19. A red flag for a crash in front of the leaders on Lap 21 set up a restart. Courtney threw a slide job on Haudenschild in turns one and two, but Haudenschild drove around it. He stayed in front until Lap 28 when Courtney took the lead on the bottom in turn one. Seconds later, Haudenschild’s right rear tire went flat in turns three and four.

That was the final caution of the race as Courtney executed a strong restart and cruised to his first career World of Outlaws win at Huset’s Speedway.

“I just knew I was going to have to go somewhere else to beat Sheldon,” he said. “I think he cut a tire. That’s sucks because I really wanted to have a race with our NOS Energy Drink teammate.”

Timms finished in the runner-up position.

“I felt really good early on,” he said. “We had a really good initial start and took the lead there. Twenty laps went by super quick. When that caution came out and Haud and Courtney got by me I knew I had to figure something out. I’m happy with the run. I felt we had a really good car. We’ll just take this night and go on to the rest of the week and hopefully get better.”

Reutzel rounded out the podium as he edged Carson Macedo in a spirited battle for third place.

“I was struggling a little bit early,” he said. “(With) a full fuel load I wasn’t very good. There at the end, when the fuel started coming off, my car came to life.”

Macedo placed fourth and Tim Kaeding drove to fifth.

Cory Eliason and Haudenschild were the quickest qualifiers in their groups. Austin McCarl, Rico Abreu, Macedo, Brad Sweet, Brock Zearfoss and Spencer Bayston were the heat race winners. Tyler Drueke captured the C Main and Eliason won the Last Chance Showdown.
