Matt Covington Racing - Glenpool, Ok. (June 19, 2024) Matt Covington’s summer season stretch kicked into high gear with last week's ASCS National Summer Speedweek that netted him 3 top-5s and one top-10.
Covington demonstrated speed and was in contention every night of Speedweek competition. Night one on Tuesday at Texarkana netted a 3rd place finish, followed by 4th at Creek County, 5th at Arrowhead, and 7th the last night on Saturday at Tri-State.
“It was disappointing not to get a win during speedweek, but we had a solid week performance-wise,” stated Matt. “The car was fast all week, and we were competitive, but we are just a tick-off right now compared to Sam and Seth. I thought on Saturday at Tri-State we had the speed for a shot at the win. But, unfortunately, we got collected up in the wreck right in front of us. It was still a decent night salvaging 7TH from the back. But other than the Tri-State deal, we were looking to have a speedweek with no finishes outside the top 5. Most people's standards that would be satisfying, but we are working to close the gap with the other two and get some wins for ourselves. Consistency is nice and all, but I will take trophies over podiums any day! I need to thank Steven and Dale for all their hard work and late nights during speedweek. It wouldn’t have been possible without them. With the points situation and the way everything has gone so far this year, our goal is just to keep it up front and find that extra edge to collect some wins as the summer rolls on.”
Covington's upcoming weekend with the ASCS National tour will consist of a one-night stop at Batesville Motor Speedway in Arkansas on Saturday.
