Rain forces postponement to July 12
UNITY, Maine (June 13, 2024) – The McGee Automotive Family Sprint Cars of New England (SCoNE) Tour has been forced to reschedule its event at Maine’s Unity Raceway due to a rainy weather forecast on the evening of Friday, June 14. The event has been postponed to Friday, July 12.
For most SCoNE teams, the trip to Central Maine is the longest tow of the season, with many teams coming from more than 200 miles away. The announcement was made on Thursday to save unnecessary travel and expense. With other Maine race tracks competing on Saturday, that date was not a suitable option for rescheduling.
“This is obviously not ideal for anyone, but with a 50-60% chance of rain it’s the most logical and responsible decision," SCoNE president Justin St. Louis said. “We’ve been in constant talks with Unity promoter Joey Doyon and we’re looking forward to making the July 12 makeup date even bigger and better.”
The next SCoNE Tour event on the schedule will now be Friday, June 21, with the Sig Sauer Academy Dirt Duels at The Flat Track at New Hampshire Motor Speedway, in Loudon, New Hampshire. NASCAR Cup Series driver Chase Briscoe will be competing with SCoNE and is aiming for his second-straight victory in the event, which pays a season-high $3,000 to win.
Long-time Connecticut racer Scott Holcomb and up-and-coming New Yorker Chase Moran are deadlocked in a tie for the SCoNE Tour championship lead after the first two events, with Troy Comeau, Caleb Lamson, Jake Williams, and Matt Hoyt all within 10 points of the co-leaders.
