The Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Auto Racing Association has a busy weekend on tap. For Badger proper, there's racing Saturday and Sunday. But, for teams with the time, the weekend starts tonight, Friday, June 7, as their sister series, the Midwest Auto Racing Association (MARA), races at Lincoln Speedway in Illinois.
The two groups officially get together tomorrow night, Saturday, June 8, for a co-sanctioned event at Sycamore Speedway, also in Illinois. A show like this will typically draw 30 or more midgets. Along with Badger, Limited Late Models and two other classes are on the card.
With six decades of racing excitement and history to their credit, Sycamore Speedway is Badger's second home, next to Angell Park. Located just a couple of miles southeast of Sycamore, Il on highway 64, this track is wide and fast, with plenty of room for three-wide racing. The staff takes great care to keep the facility clean and offers great sightlines for the fans. It's also one of the few tracks that serves up some nostalgia with their Old Milwaukee Beer.
We'll see if Harlan Kittleson has his Red Duce set for point leader Kyle Stark on Saturday. Less than a week ago Stark in the #2, caught a rut and went flipping in turn-one at Angell Park Speedway. He holds a slim 12-point lead over Cody Weisensel and just 16 over Matt Rechek, in the Badger title chase.
Sunday, June 9, the Badger Midget Series is back home at, Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI for the Norm Nelson Classic, paired with the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprint Cars alone.
Nelson was a popular winning Badger pilot who later drove to national fame in the fendered cars of the USAC Stock Car division, where we held multiple championships.
Fans are reminded to check out the MyRacePass app and play Fantasy Racing. Last week's winner of the Official Badger Midget portion of FR, will be enjoying two free tickets to Saturday's race at Sycamore. You can make your picks usually right after the first cars fire on a given night for hot laps. Check it out now and get yourself set up for this weekend's action!
