Already through the month of May during the Golden Jubilee Season at the Can-Am Speedway in Lafargeville New York and the usual suspects are at the top of the leaderboard in their respective divisions, but point races are super close as the season moves forward.
Coming into this weekend the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modified division sees Tim Fuller once again on top of the point list after his third win of the season last week. Behind him with plenty of momentum is Billy Dunn, who charged from 9th in the closing laps of last week’s feature to finish runner up for a 2nd straight week. Third in points is Lance Willix, who has all the momentum, off of winning the DIRTCar 358 Modified Series opener at Glen Ridge last Sunday. Top three are separated by 46 points.
Over to the Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman where the top three from last year are once again in the mix. Mike Fowler, who has finished runner up the last two seasons, sits on top of the point list, just 8 points ahead of Tyler Corcoran the four time and defending track champion. In third and enjoying a consistent year is Gavin Eisele, who remains 18 points back of the leaders. Eisele has not finished out of the top 5 in any race this year, despite having to come from near the back each week.
Andrew Hennessy has come on strong lately in the Panther Frameworx Crate Sprint Car division, but the driver on top of the leaderboard is the two time and defending track champion Josh Verne Jr. Both drivers are separated by 8 points and each have a pair of wins. Hennessy will look for his third in a row Friday night.
The Sundance Leisure Thundercars sees three drivers within 6 points of each other and Damien Bechler, the only two time feature winner leads the way, four points ahead of reigning track champion Francis White. In third sport is 2021 champion Tony Frezzo, who sits 6 points behind. Each driver has been a contender for wins every week and will be in the mix on Friday night.
The racing has been intense in the Donath Motorworx Limited Sportsman and one driver continues to thrill the crowds. Logan Brown made a last lap pass on Camdin Cook last week to win his second in a row and 4th of the season. Brady Howard is the only other driver with a win in the class this season.
This week is a special night for the pit crews as it’s the return of the Pit Crew Showdown plus a Mechanics race at the end of the night.
A full show is slated for the Whitesboro Plow Shop DIRTCar 358 Modifieds, Bob Johnson Auto Group DIRTCar Sportsman, Donath Motor Worx Limited Sportsman and Sundance Leisure Thundercars. Gates open at 5pm with the first green flying at 7pm, as the Golden Jubilee Season marches on.
