Inside Line Promotions – BEAVER DAM, Wis. (June 4, 2024) – Big Game Motorsports recorded its 15th podium result of the season last Friday during the opening night of the Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial hosted by Beaver Dam Raceway.
David Gravel qualified second quickest before he won a heat race – his 17th of the season – to advance into the dash. He then finished where he started – fifth – to garner the fifth starting position in the main event.
Gravel used the bottom lane to charge into the runner-up position in the opening laps. He ran in that position for several laps before spending the middle portion of the race battling eventual race winner Sheldon Haudenschild. A late caution allowed the top three to restart nose to tail, but an opportunity never presented itself for Gravel to move forward.
“We had a race-winning race car right there,” he said in a post-race interview on DIRTVision. “What a race track. It changed. The fastest lane changed a couple times. I felt like if Carson (Macedo) just continued to run the top there and didn’t dirty up my air on the bottom of (turns) three and four then I could’ve maybe got the lead. But that just opened up the top for Sheldon, and he was really able to rip it and make it count.”
Gravel’s third-place result marked his sixth straight season with a podium outing at the track.
Saturday’s Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial finale was postponed to July 10 because of wet weather.
Next up for the team will be the Don Mack Classic this Friday at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, N.D., and the Big ‘O’ Showdown this Saturday at Ogilvie Raceway in Ogilvie, Minn.
Gravel has earned a pair of World of Outlaws wins at River Cities Speedway, including one last year. He placed 11th during his debut at Ogilvie Raceway last year when he was caught up in a crash.
Gravel enters this weekend leading the World of Outlaws championship standings by 30 points.
