Inside Line Promotions – EASTABOGA, Ala. (June 4, 2024) – Derek Hagar garnered his second top-five result of the season last Thursday at Talladega Short Track during the USCS Series Speedweek.
Hagar opened the night by advancing from third to win a heat race. However, a DNF in the dash placed him sixth and started him on the outside of the third row in the main event.
“On the start of the dash we broke a shifter linkage and it popped out of gear,” he said. “I came in and we got that fixed for the feature. There wasn’t a lot of passing. We got up to fourth by the middle of the race, but just couldn’t gain any ground. It was typical Talladega where once you get going everyone spreads out. It also went caution-free so things didn’t work out in our favor.”
Hagar’s fourth-place finish was his ninth straight top-five run at the track dating back to 2015.
Speedweek races on Friday at Hattiesburg Speedway in Hattiesburg, Miss., and Saturday at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss., rained out.
Hagar finished tied for fourth in the Speedweek standings after half of the races were cancelled because of wet weather.
Next up will be races this Friday at Crowleys Ridge Speedway in Paragould, Ark., and Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., with the ASCS Hurricane Area Super Sprints.
“We love Crowleys Ridge,” Hagar said. “I haven’t been to Placerville Speedway, but I guess that’s what it was based off. It’s a really racy race track. It’ll produce two or three-wide racing. We’ve had good success in every car we’ve ever ran there.
“And Riverside is home. We have a lot of laps around that place. Depending on what the track throws at us we figure it out and try to put on a good show for the fans. Racing in front of the home crowd with that atmosphere gets you energized.”
