Belleville, IL. (5/30/24) Cannon McIntosh would fly to the front early and endure the wild run late at Doe Run Raceway to earn his twenty-third career feature win with the POWRi National Midget League, running in conjunction with Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota, on Thursday Night’s exhilarating action after leading twenty-five of the thirty feature laps.
Early on-track excitement with twenty-six top-flight entries of the POWRi National Midgets, running in conjunction with Xtreme Outlaw Midgets, would find Trevor Cline start the action off with a quick-time in group hot-lap qualifying with a track record time of 10.784-seconds as Karter Sarff, Kale Drake, and Tyler Edwards would each notch heat racing victories with Mitchell Davis taking the semi feature victory.
Setting the feature field after an extensive track rework would find the high-point qualifier Michael Pickens roll an invert of zero to put himself and Tyler Edwards on the front row leading the field as the green flag flew with Michael Pickens gaining the initial advantage on the opening lap as Tyler Edwards, Cannon McIntosh, Kale Drake, and Jade Avedisian battled inside the early top five.
Sliding into the lead on lap five through multiple early race restarts would witness Cannon McIntosh move past Michael Pickens for the prized position with Karter Sarff, Zach Daum, and Kale Drake driving into front-running contention within the top-five.
Holding steady in front, Cannon McIntosh would continue to lead while enduring lap traffic and establishing an over two-second leading advantage above Zach Daum and Michael Pickens within the top running trio.
Never flinching out front, Cannon McIntosh would not be denied in gaining his first seasonal victory with the leader of five laps Michael Pickens earning the runner-up spot as Trevor Cline finalized the podium placements in a hard-fought feature.
“I just went out tonight and executed, I feel like the whole team had this thing dialed in from the start.” said the victorious Cannon McIntosh in the Doe Run winner’s circle. Adding, “With the traffic coming in close, I feel like the caution played into our benefit but then I completed well once we did get into the lap traffic.”
Flying through the field would find Karter Sarff finish fourth with hard-charger Ryan Timms rounding out the POWRi National Midget League, running in conjunction with the Xtreme Outlaw Midget Series presented by Toyota, top-five finishers at Doe Run Raceway.
