Rough Start for Wimmer

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making his 2013 with Destiny Motorsports, Brandon Wimmer didn’t quite have the weekend he was hoping for during two nights of action against the World of Outlaws at the Eldora Speedway.

“For starters, it was a tough show to begin with, and it was even that much more of a tough show the first night out with a new team,” Wimmer said.

Focusing on getting comfortable in the Destiny Motorports machine, and on the same page as crew chief, Scott Benic, Brandon’s qualifying effort was sub par, as they chased the car in hot-laps.

“In hot-laps, I didn’t feel very good in the car, so Scott Benic and the guys made some wholesale changes prior to qualifying, and they helped, but we were still a little off,” he said.

Heat race action saw Wimmer line the Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Constructions/Eagle Motorsports machine up in the ninth spot, and an eight place finish put him in the B.

During the B, Brandon admitted the car felt the best it did all night, as he scored an eighth place finish in the B from his 14th starting spot, and hoped they were on to something for Saturday night.

Taking what they learned from Friday night, the struggles continued on Saturday early.

“I really thought we would start off much better on Saturday night, but it really felt like it was just sliding sideways, and not forward, and that really had us scratching our heads.”

Struggling through his heat, and the B, the team through whatever they could at their machine to get it better, and nothing seemed to work as Wimmer scored a 12th place finish in the LCQ.

“We all sat down after the races on Saturday and seems like everyone is in agreement to try something new next week, so we are going to put together another chassis, and see if that helps,” he said. “Other than that, I really have to thank Rick Rogers for giving me a shot in his car, and Scott Benic and all of his guys for working their tales off all weekend trying to get this right.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Rogers Construction, Eagle Motorsports, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-11, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
