(May 23, 2024) Kyle Start, expanded his lead in the 2024 Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series point standings after the Dahlke Memorial at Angell Park Speedway.
The Marshall, Wisconsin, driver has been a factor in most A-Mains this season. Taking two, FIVEone Motorsports Fast Time awards, we know he's quick, but Victory Lane has eluded the pilot of 1855 Saloon and Grill, "Red Duce" thus far in 2024. He has three top-six runs and a DNF.
Cody Weisensel, with one missed race, is the current runner up, scoring a 2nd, 6th and 5th. Could this be the year the driver of the Galladro Roofing LLC #20 finds Victory Lane?
RJ Corson, in the Mango Crane #15, is the highest ranking driver with a win (his first with Badger) and he finds himself 3rd in points. Corson has a DNF, a podium finish at 3rd, the win and then a 13th place finish.
One interesting fact on this young season and a commentary on how tough racing with Badger is, there has been a different winner in each of the first four races. Infact, dating back to September of 2023, the series has had six different winners to date. Two of the 2024 feature winners were first timers in Corson and Cale Coons.
Matt Rechek, another 2024 winner and Brian Peterson round out the top five in the points race. Rechek, has had some mechanical gremlins. Peterson had a bad flip at Angell Park, after three solid runs.
We tried to catch up with Peterson to see how he's doing after the crash last weekend. Despite tagging the wall with the cage of his car, causing a major bend, he did walk to the ambulance on his own. At press time, we were unable to connect with him. We have seen posts of the #7 Spankins Motorsports, Phantom Chassis, at the Phantom shop getting fixed, which we'll take as a good sign.
Badger has the Memorial Day weekend off. They will be back in action Sunday, June 2, at Angell Park Speedway. This event, dubbed the Fanaktive Three in One Show, features the AFS Badger Midget Series, the Wisconsin wingLESS Sprint Cars and the MSA 360 Sprint Cars.
