Inside Line Promotions – BRANDON, S.D. (May 20, 2024) – Tim Estenson capped last weekend with a top-10 performance on Sunday during the season-opening race at Huset’s Speedway.
Estenson qualified 21st quickest, but rebounded in a heat race by hustling from sixth to second place. That locked him into the feature in the 15th starting position.
“We raced our butt off in the heat race,” he said. “Before the feature Jack (Dover) said to strike early and a top eight would be huge. Fortunately that’s what we were able to do. We got lucky with a couple of cars in front of us having problems. We had one last caution and I was able to pick off two more in the rubber. Overall, we were happy with the result.”
A run from 15th to eighth was Estenson’s third top 10 of the season. He was also tied for the third-most positions gained in the A Main.
The weekend began last Friday at Lee County Speedway in Donnellson, Iowa, with the POWRi 410 Bandit Outlaw Sprint Series. Estenson qualified third quickest and placed third in a heat race.
“We had a good qualifying pill draw and ended up going third quick,” he said. “We were able to get one spot in our heat to finish third. Then we started third in the feature. The track was top dominant. Starting on the inside, I got freight trained by a couple of cars early and moved up. I ran sixth or seventh for a good quarter to almost half of the race. I ended up fading toward the end. To be honest, I fell out of the seat with a lack of breathing and wearing myself out early. That was disappointing to say the least, but it’s a fixable problem. I need to hit the gym and get a little better. It was a learning moment.”
Estenson was credited with a 14th-place result.
The team has a four-race weekend on tap. It begins with POWRi 410 Bandit Outlaw Sprint Series races on Friday at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Mo., and Saturday at Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, Mo. The team will then head to Huset’s Speedway for races on Sunday and Monday.
