*The evening was highlighted by the World Of Outlaws Extreme midget series rolling 22 starters out on the Grid. With what was a smooth racing surface that stayed dirty slick throughout the feature it gave the young guns plenty of opportunity to trade sliders and make hair raising passes. At the end it was Cannon McIntosh on the O’reilly Auto Parts Victory Lane scales. On the last lap as the leaders were crossing the double checkered flags a nasty airborne rollover by Peter Smith occurred in turn 4. We are happy to report that the driver is recovering well and we will continue to send well wishes his team’s way.
*The JLR Property Management 316 Modifieds never disappoint, I mean if yellow is your favorite color anyway….. The Soon to Be Mrs. Foam (Shelby Stucky) darted to an early lead but the veteran driver Kendall Kemp stayed focused and made his move on lap 5 and had no other distractions on his way to victory. It was great to see The “Jet” T.J. Tolan back on the speedway making some laps getting his program rolling for 2024. The racing was intense from P2-P9 while multiple drivers battled closely for the last several laps. 3rd went to Cody Johnson 4th went to “Tricky” Ricky Bonham, and 5th to Treyton Gann by way of the 3 car of Alex Krogmeier being Disqualified in the tech line.
*The Rage Beef Jerky Mini-Stocks Had Big-T Titus Bortzfield in his new Reimer racing ride start on the pole and never really looked back leading all laps. David Bice was again strong finishing 2nd, Rustin Allen 3rd and Heather Straub 4th. This class has been really competitive and is a great place to get started in racing at the Speedway. Ask questions, meet the drivers after any race night and get more information at www.81Speedway.com
*Next Up is the Heartland Modified Touring series as former 81 Speedway announcer Erick Chesterman brings his act to the “House of Speed” for the Dalice Franz Memorial Race May 18th. Free Grandstand admission with Newton ID shown. (one per ID) Look for the Franz family on the concourse prior to the races.
