Ty Williams Wins Night One of the Thunder on the Plains

Colby, Kansas 5/10/2024 (www.urssracing.com) - The United Rebel Sprint Series presented by RacinDirt.Com returned to the Thomas County Speedway in Colby Kansas for the first time since 2020, for night one of the Thunder on the Plains. With 9 winged warriors checking into the ? mile clay oval, the competition was stiff all night.

In the opening laps of the feature, Ty Williams was able to pull away from Taylor Velasquez. Williams, who sat on the pole, started to get challenged as lap traffic became a factor midway through the race. Ty Willaims made a move to the outside of Ryan Rader, allowing Velasquez and Martens to close the gap to the leader. As the field closed in on another lap car, the caution came out for Justin Chaffin parked in turn 2.

With the field stacked back together, it was a 7 lap shootout to determine the winner. Ty Williams got a good launch in front of a single file restart and never looked back. “We’ve been hot dog water to start the year, but we’ve seem to figure out what the deal is and we’ll go from here” said Williams. Only being the 2nd feature of the season for the driver out of Arcadia Oklahoma, it has been a rocky start to say the least. “We just did the complete opposite of what we’ve been doing and it worked this time, so we’ll see” added Williams.

During the post race technical inspection, the 21x of Taylor Velasquez was disqualified for a “Technical Infraction” per United Rebel Sprint Series Officials. Velasquez, who unofficially finished 2nd to Ty Williams, had to forfeit his finishing position. “It is what it is. We will fix it moving forward and look forward to heading to Dodge City tomorrow” said Velasquez after the race.

As far as the points standings go, Steven Richardson continues to lead with 872 points in 5 races. Jeremy Huish jumped a spot with his third place finish. Jeremy Huish, who is now -31 to Richardson, heads back to Dodge City Raceway Park where he won earlier this season.

The United Rebel Sprint Series presented by RacinDirt.Com is back in action Saturday, May 11th at Dodge City Raceway park for the final night of the Thunder on the Plains. Pits are scheduled to open at 3PM, with the main gates opening at 5pm. Racing will start at 7:30 pm with Qualifying to follow.
