Cottage Grove, Oregon- After a very busy and exciting Grove Classic weekend last Friday and Saturday the Cottage Grove Speedway will be busy once more by this week’s end. Friday May 3rd will be the first Kart race of 2013 for the program. Saturday the 4th will have a full card of classes for fans to enjoy on the ¼-mile clay bullring. The Northwest Wingless Tour, Northwest Extreme Sprints (formerly the Limited Sprints), IMCA Modifieds, Street Stocks, and Hornets will all be on hand to compete.
“Last weekend we had some great racing and great crowds,” commented Heather Boyce, General Manager of Cottage Grove Speedway, “if you haven’t seen a Kart race at Cottage Grove you’re really missing out. And Saturday we expect to have a full pit area with all the classes that will be here for that night. We hope everyone can come out and enjoy some quality entertainment”
When the Northwest Wingless Tour visited CGS earlier this year it was Kyle Mehner earning the first win of the season for the series. Troy McElroy backed up his 2012 championship to win the first race for the IMCA Modifieds last Saturday. Daniel Ray put his mount into victory lane last Friday to win the first race in Street Stock competition. And so far Joe Maricle and Kolby Clay have been victorious in the first two Hornet features of the season.
The Northwest Extreme Sprints will be in the house for the first time in 2013. Last year Orion Redmond was the champion of this class before it was rebranded with its current name during the offseason. Winning the first race in this class in 2012 was Zack Spaulding last May.
General admission to the Friday Kart event will be FREE of charge. Pit passes are $10.00 and car and driver fees will be $30.00. The pit gates open up around 4:00 PM and racing is scheduled to begin around 6:45.
Tickets for the races on Saturday are $12.00 for Adults, Senior/Military/Junior (13-17) $10.00, Youths (6-12) $5.00, and Children under the age of five are FREE. A Family Pass is offered for $35.00 which includes two Adults and up to four Youths. Pit gates open at 3:00 PM, front gates 4:00, time trials 5:30, and racing stats around 6:45.
The Cottage Grove Speedway has hosted fast and exciting action as far back as 1956. Since then the ¼-mile banked oval has been regarded as a place where fast times are set and plenty of side-by-side racing occurs. Regular classes include 360 Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, NW Extreme Winged Sprint Cars, Late Models, Street Stocks, and Hornets from the months of April till September every Saturday night.
