Steering Issues Plagues RAR First Race of the Season

This past Saturday evening the Ron Aurand Racing team made their first start of the 2024 season at the Port Royal Speedway. The team went into the race saying they were going to treat it as their bug day with only expectations of working on their set up with the new RPM Chassis and BRS FK Shocks. Immediately during warmups Ron stated that something felt off in the steering and the team went to work immediately trying to diagnose the issue, unfortunately after taking the initial green flag in the heat race the issue was still not resolved and Ron pulled in immediately ending their evening.

When I called Ron this week to talk to him about our weekly write up, he said “When I tried to counter steer while at speed the steering had a tight spot which of course is not a good feeling when trying to steer one of these things, I figured it was best to pull off and not risk anything.”

This week Ron gave an update and said that a few of crew guys contacted Butch Green at GME Steering in New Ringold, PA and they were able to get them all fixed up. “My dad and Bob ran the box and pump up to Butch and Pete Green at GME this past week. They left around 4am and drove up to be there when they opened, and Butch was happy to get us all fixed up. You can’t beat that kind of customer service” Ron said.

When I asked Ron what is on the schedule for the upcoming few weeks, he said that currently the team plans on taking this week off due to prior commitments but hopes to get things ironed out next week at Port Royal Speedway. “We are looking to just turn laps right now and learn, we are fighting an uphill battle each week at Port Royal Speedway but we are looking at getting me comfortable in the car and getting some valuable seat time” We are looking to start making trips out to Western PA and Ohio during the summer months but right now it’s hard to pass up running at Port Royal Speedway which is only 15 minutes from our shop and pays great tow money and start money for the feature.”
