(April 25, 2013, Cliff Morgan, Ventura Raceway) OXNARD, CA - Ventura Raceway returns to action this Saturday night April 27, with another exciting event. This weekend we will feature our adult classes in the best in short track oval racing to be found anywhere. VRA Midgets, VRA Senior Sprints, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts, VRA Hobby Stocks and Go Karts will be there to entertain fans with their hard fought, no holds barred racing action.
VRA Midgets will be continuing their 2013 season Saturday. 2012 Series Champion Cody Swanson will be back to challenge the April 6th Battle at the Beach winner and current point leader Ronnie Gardner. Cody will be trying to get back on track to defend his 2012 series title against cousin Jake Swanson, Rick Hendrix, Randi Pankratz, Kyle Smith and all the regular VRA Midget drivers. These high powered racers put on outstanding races each time they race here and Saturday night should be no exception as they battle in the 30 lap feature.
2012 Series Champion, Clif Warren will lead the VRA Senior Sprints into action after taking the opening night win, the win on March 23 and then coming back to win in their last appearance on March 30 to make it three in a row. He will go for a record four in a row Saturday. These over 45 year old racers race the same cars as our regular VRA 360 sprint car drivers, with age being the only difference. Other drivers scheduled to appear include past champion Bruce Douglass, Victor Davis, Chris Meredith and Wally Pankratz.
IMCA Modifieds will also be on hand for their next race of the 2013 season. Last race winner and current point leader, Josh Vogt will be going for four in a row against defending track champion Jack Parker, and all the Ventura IMCA Regulars including Robbie Witwer, Brad Prows, Dennis Eckert, the Rodarte brothers Austin and Aaron, Steve Bulpit and many others. These V8 powered open wheel stock cars will keep you on the edge of your seat as they battle on Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval.
VRA Sport Compacts will also be on the schedule this weekend. These four cylinder racer cars are the entry level class for racers getting started in dirt track oval racing. Last year’s champion Zach Peterson is back to battle against March 23rd winner Mike Stanford and the rest of the Sport Compact competitors as he goes for two championships in a row.
VRA Hobby Stocks are back as well to continue their season. This growing class racing of V8 powered stockcars will keep you n the edge of your seat with close hard fought competition. Last race winner Scott Dinger will be going for two in a row against David Heurung, Gary Curtis, Tom Stephens Jr., Ernie Malone and the rest of the field in this exciting new class.
VRA Go Karts will continue their season Saturday night. All the top drivers in this division are back in 2013 to try to see who will take the series championship at the end of the season in November. Last race winner and series point leader Matt Jones will be going for another win against Cody Nigh, Dylan Ito, Kenny Byers Jr. and the rest of the VRA Go Kart racers. These racers will continue to race on the large track as they did in the 2012 season. They put on a great show for the fans on the large track and tonight's racing should be no exception to this.
Pit gates open at 12 noon, with front gates opening at 3:00 PM. Preliminary on track action gets under way at 3:30 with warm ups and racing begins at 5:30. Admission prices are, $15.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors. Kids 12 and under are always free with a paid adult admission.
