Grain Valley, Mo: Saturday Night at Valley Speedway, 28 USAC MWRA non winged sprint cars would put on a memorable performance with Battlefield, Missouris, Kory Schudy taking home the first place prize in the 25 lap A feature. Holding off the Wagner Boys, Jack Wagner, in 2nd, and brother Samuel Wbr Wagner with a career best 3rd place finish racing in the Midwest Wingless Racing Association sponsored by Wholesale Batteries Inc.
The 25 lapper was a barn burner with 22 competitors taking the green flag for 25 laps. In a war of attrition, and intense fighting for position, defending champion Wyatt Burks would lead from the get go, before being passed following a restart by Jack Wagner.
In an attempt to regain first, Burks would go high, opening the door for Schudy to go low, as he moved from his sixth starting spot to second place. The Jon Sawyer Racing (JSR) 28 was on rail as it took the fight to Wagner next driving the Jesse Hockett Racing 77, eventually passing Wagner on the high side to take the lead. Meanwhile, Burks continued to give all he had from third to catch the leading twosome before losing traction, and while starting to spin, ended up doing a pirouette, before turning over. The 11w was done for the evening, but the Kansas chauffeur was okay.
On the restart with 4 laps remaining Schudy was able to hold of Jack Wagner, while brother Samuel, fought his way thru the pack steadily throughout the feature event to advance 14 positions, earning 3rd. The younger Wagner brother had a wild evening of racing, that included going off the track on the hook following an incident involving multiple cars at the start of the 2nd heat. Advancing from 11th to 2nd in the B Feature, and then taking the hard charger award after his third place run in the A.
Rounding out the top 10 on the first night of the 2024 season was Taylor Walton in 4th, Luke Howard 5th, Craig Carroll 6th, Zach Clark 7th, Chris Parkinson 8th, Ty Hulsey 9th, and Kobe Simpson, coming home 10th.
A packed house at Dennis Shrouts Valley Speedway would see, Michael Moore win the first heat, Xavier Doney the second, Kory Schudy the third, and Jack Wagner the fourth and final heat. With Tom Curran winning the 12 lap B feature. And Wesley Smith taking high point honors for the evening after advancing from 7th to 3rd in his heat race.
The Wholesale Batteries MWRA sprint car series will next be in action April 19th at Electric Speedway, in Butler, Missouri.
