As the venerable Badger Midget Auto Racing Association inches closer to kicking off its 89th season of sanctioning midget racing, they are glad to announce a new media director to keep fans informed throughout the coming landmark season.
Bill Blumer Jr. was selected as the new Media Director at the club’s annual meeting in December and is beginning his duties as the series gets closer to its first green flag of the season at Beaver Dam Raceway in late April.
Blumer is a well known voice in midget media circles and has been published in national, regional and local publications. As a lifelong midget racing fan and Badger supporter, he brings a depth of knowledge of the series both historically and over the past few years of rapid change and growth.
Blumer grew up in Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, the home of Angell Park Speedway, a staple of any BMARA season. He began shooting photos at age 10 in the mid-1970s. His writing started in college, including sports reporting for the UW-Platteville student newspaper. He married his love of writing and racing with a debut article in 2005 for nationally-published FlatOut Magazine and often featured Badger competitors in his work for various magazines over the next two decades. His writing earned him the privilege of writing several official biographies for National Sprint Car Hall of Fame members inductions.
"I am so proud to be a part of the Advanced Fastening Supply Badger Midget Series. I’ve been covering Badger for about 20 years, starting with FlatOut Magazine, through today with Dirt Empire Magazine. The faith Badger president, Quinn McCabe, has put in me really means a lot. I’m looking forward to carrying on the strong tradition of highlighting one of the most storied clubs in all of racing,” said Blumer Jr.
McCabe feels Blumer comes especially prepared for his new role with the club. “I am excited to have Bill Blumer Jr join our team as media director of the Badger Midget Series. Bill’s writing experience and vast knowledge of the sport will be a great addition to Badger. The media work that he did at the Chili Bowl solidified that we have the right person in that position.”
As noted, Blumer officially started working for Badger with 2024 Chili Bowl coverage. As they progress toward the season opener, he will supply biographical pieces on current drivers and other news, leading to the start of the Badger Midget Series taking to the track.
