Bryan Hulbert - TULSA, Okla. (April 2, 2013) It goes without saying that Little Rock, Ark. has a long history with the Lucas Oil American Sprint Car Series presented by MAVTV American Real. Crowning Garry Lee Maier champion for the 1992 season, the first official National Tour commenced on May 15, 1993 at the Joe M. Clay Raceway, or as it is knows far and wide, I-30 Speedway.
Since that first race, the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real has seen 62 checkered flags fall over 25 different drivers. Most recent of those winners is Paul McMahan who captured the 25th annual Comp Cam Short Track Nationals presented by Hoosier Tire on October 27, 2012 ahead of Christopher Bell and Gary Wright.
The first of three appearances of the 2013 season at “Hammer Hill”, the Saturday, April 6 date for the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real will count as the seventh tour date of the 2013 season.
One year ago, the spring race at the I-30 Speedway was postponed to June following heavy rains just prior to the start of the final Heat Race on the prelim night. Upon the series return, Tony Bruce, Jr. powered to the prelim win but was not able to keep Jason Johnson at bay the following night. Both Tony and Jason share multiple wins at the quarter-mile oval.
By the numbers, the top three in the list of I-30 winners includes Gary Wright who holds the record for Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real victories at Hammer Hill with 13 triumphs. Jason Johnson follows with seven followed by Tim Crawley with five.
Crawley, who for the past couple of seasons has elected to race closer to home, is among the toughest competition the National Tour faces when they roll through the gates of the I-30 Speedway. A three time Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real Champion, it leaves no wonder as to why the Benton, Ark. driver is a threat at any National event he attends.
Crawley is just one of several who compete regularly at the I-30 Speedway who are poised to upset the National drivers.
Scaled to a single day show in 2013, the Little Rock date will be the second night of a weekend swing that begins at the Golden Triangle Raceway Park in Beaumont, Texas.
Events at the I-30 Speedway are scheduled to begin at 7:30 P.M. with gates opening at 5 P.M. For more information regarding events at the I-30 Speedway, and all Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV American Real events at the I-30 Speedway, log onto http://www.i-30speedway.com.
