Fans Vote 2016 Badger Champ Waelti into Chili Bowl Race of Champions

Tulsa, Oklahoma (January 8, 2024) – The Chili Bowl Nationals, the world's largest midget racing event held in Tulsa, OK each January, held a fan vote to determine the final two drivers for its annual O’Reilly Auto Parts Invitational Race of Champions. Once the votes were tallied, the Badger Midget Auto Racing Association’s own 2016 champion Brandon Waelti found himself in the race.

Waelti, a journeyman driver in the BMARA and a Sun Prairie, WI native, will wheel his #3 Bullet/Esslinger Honda entry against some of the nation’s best drivers. NASCAR’s Chase Briscoe, sprint car legend Sammy Swindell, and late model star Tim McCreadie are just a few of the drivers Waelti will be up against in Monday’s race.

The Chili Bowl Nationals event takes place over an entire week of racing beginning on Monday, January 8, and concluding on Saturday, January 13. The event is broadcast live on the Flo Racing streaming service and will include Monday’s O’Reilly Auto Parts Invitational Race of Champions. Waelti is expected to be on track for hot laps at approximately 7 pm with the Race of Champions beginning at 9:15 pm.
