Inside Line Promotions – Mt. POCONO, Pa. (Nov. 7, 2023) – Joey Amantea took another major step forward in his development as a race car driver in 2023.
Amantea captured a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars feature triumph for the second straight season and he posted a third-place finish in the championship standings despite missing multiple races.
“Getting back to Victory Lane with USAC East Coast at a track we’ve always had success at was pretty cool,” he said. “I think we podiumed more than any other year. It was a really good year.”
Amantea made waves on a national scale as well while running with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars. He charged from 18th to seventh to highlight a successful Indiana Sprint Week. He garnered a 19th-place finish in the event standings and ranked third in passing points out of the nearly 100 competitors who tackled Indiana Sprint Week.
Additionally, Amantea made the main event during the famed Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Sprint Car Smackdown XII in the fall.
“We had a lot of speed during Indiana Sprint Week,” he said. “The biggest one of the year was making the Smackdown feature. In our first attempt, we won a heat race, had speed the whole time and made the show. That was huge.
“At the end of the day there’s not much I could complain about. Would I like a couple more wins? Yes. But we still won, made several USAC National shows and were competitive. What more could I ask for in really my third full year in a sprint car and my first year of showing consistent speed and traveling?
“I felt like I grew as a driver mainly in being able to control the car a lot better than I used to. I have a better feeling of the car’s limits and how far I can push it. That has helped me to success both with the local stuff and the national stuff. Really racing with the USAC National guys showed me how far I can push as a driver.”
Amantea noted that he hopes to make another leap next year following the successful campaign in 2023.
“In 2024 we’ll be swinging out of the gate with a competitive car and team that can contend,” he said. “We plan on starting the season down in Florida again and then hopefully doing more USAC National races. We want to support the USAC East Coast Sprint Cars when we can and fill in with 410 winged races.”
