Plymouth, WI (9/23/2023) - With the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championship night looming, the AutoMeter Wisconsin wingLess Sprint Series got their first taste of the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds and the Plymouth Dirt Track for the season, as they raced during the Jim “wildman” Watson Classic. Ryan Zielski picked up his fifth feature win of the season after working to the lead early in the feature.
With 28 entries on the night, fireworks were guaranteed. And the field delivered immediately during the joint hotlap and qualifying session, where Chris Klemko broke the track record which sat at a 14.358 established all the way back in 2018. Klemko’s 14.302 was good enough for quicktime with Clayton Rossmann, Jimmy Sivia, Allen Hafford, and Zielski the top five.
Heat race 1 went to Zach Raidart, with Ryan Marshall and Hafford behind in the top three. Tyler Kuxhouse picked up heat 2 as Rossmann and Zielski finished second and third. The final heat was won by Derek Crane, with Sivia second and Bryce Andrews third. The B-Main on the night was won by Eric Wilke.
The AutoMeter A-Main rolled onto the raceway with Andrews and Zielski sitting on the front row. The green flag was thrown but it quickly turned to yellow, as on the initial start, Andy Dei found himself spun around on the front straight. A complete restart ensued and it was Zielski up high who surged through on the top side and took the lead. With Zielski running away up front, attention turned to the battle between Raidart and Rossmann fighting through the front pack from their eighth and seventh starting spots. While it looked all sealed away for Zielski, the yellow flag came out for the #22 of Greg Alt, who slammed into the wall. A six-lap sprint ensued and Zielski resumed his domination. Raidart and Rossmann went right back at it but with some added Marshall to spice it up. While the field fought behind him, Zielski grew his gap and ran away, driving into the night and into his fifth win of the season, with Raidart coming home second and Marshall surging through late to pick up third.
The AutoMeter Wisconsin wingLess Sprint Series will round out its season during the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championship night on September 30th at the Plymouth Dirt Track at the Sheboygan County Fairgrounds alongside the Bumper To Bumper IRA Sprints, the IRA Lightning Sprints, and Akright Auto MSA Sprints.
