Inside Line Promotions – KUTZTOWN, Pa. (Aug. 23, 2023) – A change of plans last weekend had Joey Amantea tackling a handful of micro sprint starts.

Amantea kicked off the weekend on Friday at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., where he overcame woes early in the night to charge from 18th to seventh in the A Main.

“We had a fuel tank issue and didn’t get to race in the heat race,” he said. “Something in the pickup was sucking in air and not working. We got it fixed for the feature. We kept the same setup in it as the beginning of the day. The track took rubber and the tire we had on was bald. I don’t know how we finished.”

Amantea raced in both the wingless and winged divisions on Saturday at Greenwood Valley Action Tracks in Orangeville, Pa. He advanced from 11th to third in the wingless feature and from 10th to fourth in the winged main event.

“The wingless result didn’t show our speed,” he said. “We were running fifth and passing for fourth. I accidently tagged him and spun out so I had to come from last. We tracked down first and second with three laps to go and just ran out of time. I was really happy with the speed right out of the gate.

“In the winged car we had no expectations and were able to pass some cars in the feature so that was a positive.”

Sunday showcased double duty once again, this time with a wingless micro sprint and a non-wing sprint car with the Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars. Unfortunately, both main events ended early for Amantea, who was credited with 16th in the sprint car and 22nd in the micro sprint.

“Even though it ended bad it still was a good night,” he said. “We didn’t expect much out of the micro sprint. In the sprint car we showed a lot of speed in a car I hadn’t run in a while. We took the lead later in the race and got run over so that ended our night early. That was frustrating, but we were pleased with the speed we had.”

Next up will be the Elliott’s Custom Trailers & Carts Sprint Car Smackdown XII with the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars this Thursday through Saturday at Kokomo Speedway in Kokomo, Ind.

“The goal is to make the show every night and see how far we can get,” he said. “We’ve had speed everywhere we’ve gone. We just want to ride that momentum.”
