Inside Line Promotions – PUYALLUP, Wash. (Aug. 22, 2023) – Trey Starks returns to action this Saturday at Skagit Speedway.
It will mark his first race of the month and will serve as the final tune-up before the famed Sage Fruit Skagit Nationals – the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series event that runs the following weekend at the dirt oval in Alger, Wash.
“We built a new car this year for the 410 and changed a few things from the start,” Starks said. “It seemed to be a lot better. Last year our theme was struggling a little earlier in the night, but we were good late. This year we’re much better earlier in the night and still good late in the night, but we’re looking for a little more the second half of the feature.
“I wouldn’t say we’d go into it with wild swings, but if we’re looking for something come feature-time and we want to try something this weekend is the time to. If we take a bigger swing it’s something isolated. If we make a big change it’s to one part of the race car. I might take one thing and do a bigger change to see how it affects the car. If you start changing a bunch of things at once and it does change the car you don’t know where it comes from. We’ve been pretty good early and qualified well on a local basis and the bigger shows. We might take a swing with a change to a specific component to see how it reacts, but we don’t get too far out of our baseline these days.”
Starks enters this Saturday’s race leading the 410ci winged sprint car championship standings at Skagit Speedway by 34 points. He has a division-leading four victories and six top fives in eight starts.
“I feel really good in the 410,” he said. “We’ve had good speed, but still have things to work on. From my standpoint that’s a good feeling knowing we’ve been good, but can be better.”
Starks is down to single digit number of races remaining on his planned 2023 schedule with six nights at Skagit Speedway and three at Grays Harbor Raceway in Elma, Wash.
“Dirt Cup, Summer Nationals and the World of Outlaws weekend are the bullet points on the schedule,” he said. “We use the local races to get ready for these races. We have a valuable 410 race this Saturday at Skagit to get laps for the Outlaws to learn more. The track conditions do change throughout the year based on the seasons so Saturday can be good to learn and hopefully we’ll get a win while we’re at it.”
