Kansas City, KS: On a beautiful night for racing at Lakeside Speedway (Topeka, KS) driver Wyatt Burks in the WBR 11W would battle his way to a hard fought victory in the Wholesale Batteries USAC MWRA non winged sprint series to win the Weld Memorial over Xavier Doney from (Odessa, MO) running the Doney-Lawson Racing 74, Jack Wagner (Lone Jack, MO) turning the wheels in the JHR 77, Luke Howard (Overland Park, KS) in the LHR 2H, and Riley Kreisel (Warsaw, MO) chauffeuring the DKR 91 finishing out the top five.

From the drop of the green flag in the 25 lapper the racing was fast and furious on Lakesides 4/10 mile oval that featured side by side racing, and battles throughout the field.

Burks would get the jump early over Doney fresh off a top 5 racing during Indiana Sprint week at Circle City in his new Schnee chassis. Thru traffic, and a crucial restart, Burks was never able to put him away. But as the feature was coming to a end, Doney made a gallant attempt to take the lead in the last two corners, however Burks would hold him off coming out of four and down the stretch to win his third Weld Memorial in the last four years. For "The Sheriff" it was also his fourth win in the series in 2023, and this time around was worth $2,500 dollars to the Kansan after Lakeside added another $500 to the winners share of the purse Friday night.

For the second year in a row, Jack Wagner would charge to a podium position after a not so stellar heat race to come home third after starting twelfth. Wagner would also take the Midwest Wingless Racing Association Hard Charger award as well for his efforts.

Finishing fourth on the evening for the second straight race, “Cool Hand” Luke Howard had a eventful evening as well which saw him twice having to come from seventh place to second in his heat race. This situation occurred after his mount jumped out of gear after completing two laps, and a sensational start was foiled after he advanced five positions. On the restart, after going back to seventh once again, Howard steadily worked his way up to second for good to earn high point honors for the evening. While fifth place Friday night competitor Riley Kreisel won the second heat race over Howard.

Positions (6-10) at the Weld Memorial would include Kory Schudy, driving the Jon Sawyer Racing (JSR) 28, who would run the bottom in the A feature to advance from his 8th starting spot up to 3rd place at one point. Before the lower groove went away snapping his podium streak at five straight races with the MWRA when he faded to sixth. While rounding out the top ten at Lakeside for the Weld Memorial was seventh Samuel Wbr Wagner In the JHR 73, eighth place Dakota Earls running the DER 15E, ninth, Kyle Lewis driving the KLR 2, and Chad Winfrey racing the Chris Parkinson Racing 65W to tenth.
Earlier in the evening, Samuel Wagner, and Burks, would join Kreisel with heat race wins. With Max Grogan taking the Xtreme Color Hard Luck award.
