Inside Line Promotions – WEST MEMPHIS, Ark. (June 27, 2023) – Derek Hagar is coming off a wicked end to his nine-race winning streak that started the season.
Hagar advanced from third to win a heat race on June 17 at Riverside International Speedway. He started on the pole in the A Main and was leading early when a driver he was putting a lap down made contact. The impact slammed Hagar’s race car into the frontstretch wall and started a vicious flip, ending his night early during the Greg Hodnett Memorial.
“The winning streak was definitely something to be proud of,” he said. “Leading the race we were headed toward 10 in a row, but an unfortunate circumstance with a lapped car happened. Sometimes you’re the bug and sometimes you’re the windshield. It just didn’t play out in our favor. It tore up the race car pretty good. It won’t be ready by the weekend so we have to put a new car together.”
Hagar plans to return to Riverside International Speedway this Saturday in search of redemption. It’s the kickoff to a two-race weekend with the USCS Series.
“We’ll just start over and go from there,” he said. “We’ve proven we can do it. We just need to do it again. We want to beat our best season, which is 16 wins.”
The weekend finale is Sunday at Magnolia Motor Speedway in Columbus, Miss. His most recent triumph at the track came in July 2019. Hagar was also victorious there in 2018, 2017, 2014 and 2013.
“It’s been an awesome track,” he said. “It seems like we haven’t been there in forever. I’m looking forward to heading back there. The fans are awesome. The race track is phenomenal and it’s fun racing up against the fence.”
