Hartmann earns IRA Sycamore top 10, looks forward to Beaver Dam Outlaws weekend

(PEDAL DOWN PROMOTIONS) June 14, 2023 – Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing punched in another smooth, consistent and workmanlike effort during a doubleheader weekend of Bumper to Bumper Interstate Racing Association 410 Sprint Car Series action highlighted by a ninth place showing at Sycamore Speedway in Maple Grove, Ill. on Saturday, June 10 and a 12th place finish at Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, Wis. on Sunday, June 11.

With 28 IRA 410 Sprint Cars on hand, Hartmann opened the program at Sycamore Speedway by qualifying 13th with a lap of 13.479 seconds. In the first IRA eight-lap heat race, Hartmann started fifth and finished third to earn a berth in the 30-lap main event.

After rolling off 11th in the IRA headline event, the 2020 Midwest Sprint Car Association and Plymouth Dirt Track Racing 360 Sprint Car Rookie of Year Award winner endured three caution flags and exercised patience on a one-lane rubber-down racing surface to notch his third top-10 A-main finish of the 2023 season with a solid ninth place showing in a race won by Blake Nimee.

The 87A Hartmann Racing team then traveled to Angell Park Speedway on Sunday, June 11 for the IRA’s second 2023 appearance at the venerable third-mile clay oval facility.

Hartmann started the night by qualifying 12th in the 31-car field with a lap of 12.362 seconds. He followed that up with a third place showing after starting on the pole in the third 10-lap IRA heat race.

After starting the 30-lap main event 12th, Hartmann dropped back to 16th in the early going before settling down and gradually working his way back up through the pack. Following four caution flag periods, including two for single-car flips in turn three, Hartmann advanced to 12th on lap 23.

Hartmann held on over the final seven laps to secure his sixth top-15 main event finish of the 2023 campaign in a race won by Bill Balog.

“I thought our efforts this weekend as a team were big,” Hartmann said. “Eric [Bergschultz] busted his butt and we had a fast car both nights.”

With the Bumper to Bumper IRA 410 Sprint Car Series sitting idle, Austin Hartmann and the 87A Hartmann Racing team will take on the NOS Energy Drink World of Outlaws 410 Sprint Car Series for a doubleheader weekend of competition at the 13th annual Jim “JB” Boyd Memorial Presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts event at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, Wis. on Friday, June 16 and Saturday, June 17.

Hartmann made his first career World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series A-main start during the Saturday portion of the Outlaws doubleheader weekend in 2022.

Pit gates open at 2 p.m. with grandstand gates opening at 4 p.m., followed by hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. on both nights.

The Wisconsin Legend Dirt Racing Series and Minnesota 600cc Winged Micro Sprints will be in action both nights.

“We’re very excited for this weekend with the Outlaws,” Hartmann said. “Our goal is to make the show both nights.”
