Kyle Steffens embarked on an ultra-busy Memorial Day weekend of racing, which spanned two divisions of cars across two states in two different divisions.
Action opened on Friday, May 26 at Lucas Oil Indianapolis Raceway Park with the 66th running of the Hoosier Hundred. Kyle qualified 22nd fastest in the 32-car field to earn the 22nd-starting spot for the coveted event.
He progressively worked his way forward in the field and was up to the 11th position before a multi-car incident on a lap-99 restart eliminated Steffens from contention. He was credited with a 20th-place finish in the event.
The team shifted gears on Friday and Saturday with a pair of Midwest Auto Racing Series (MARS) Modified Championship events in the Land of Lincoln. On Saturday, May 27 Kyle embarked on Fairbury (Ill.) Speedway to battle 44 entries. Earning the 11th-starting spot for the feature via preliminary action, he advanced to a seventh-place finish.
On Sunday evening Steffens invaded Spoon River Speedway (Banner, Ill.) where 32 entries set their sights on the $2,564 top prize. A heat race win positioned Kyle on the pole for the feature. He paced the first 12 circuits before slipping to the second position. He went on to cross the finish line in second behind Cole Falloway with Mike McKinney, Dillon Nusbaum, and Brandon Roberts completing the Top-5 finishers.
The busy stretch of racing drew to a close on Wednesday, June 1 at Tri-City Speedway, where Kyle raced from seventh-to-fourth in the DIRTcar UMP Modified feature behind Michael Long, Kenny Wallace, and Mike Harrison.
