Matt Covington Racing. Glenpool, Ok. (June 7th, 2023) Matt Covington took on Outlaw Motor Speedway this past Friday night for the Mickey Walker Classic with the ASCS National Tour, coming home 2nd.
Matt was able to capitalize on a good qualifying effort that granted a good heat race starting position, which resulted in a heat race win. The win placed him in the redraw where he obtained the outside front row starting spot for the A-Feature. At the drop of the green, Matt worked the high side and raced inside the top-5 for the majority of the race, before settling into third. With a late yellow and only a handful of laps remaining, Covington would try and mount one last charge. On the restart, Matt took over 2nd and made a run for the lead. The 95 Triple X/Fisher Engines mount had a run down the backstretch on the final lap, but couldn’t quite match the exit speed off of four, crossing the checkers in 2nd.
“We had a good car Friday night, just took a while for the car and track to come to us,” stated Matt. “I found a line that was working there in the late laps, especially after that restart. I changed things up a little getting in and starting running across the middle which allowed me to close the gap. I would have liked to got the win, but still a solid night and don’t really have much to be disappointed about. I am excited for this upcoming weekend and getting a chance to run a 410 again and knock the rust off. We are going to go to Dallas with the Elite guys and shake down the new 410. Hopefully I can get comfortable and refresh ourselves with the 410 game, it’s been awhile since I been in one.”
Up next for Matt and team is some 410 action with the ASCS Elite Outlaw Sprints at Devil’s Bowl Speedway this Saturday night.
