(Oxnard, CA., Cliff Morgan, 10-4-12) Ventura Raceway continues its 2012 racing season Saturday night October 6, at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. On that night we will be featuring VRA Midgets, VRA Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, VRA Mod Lites, VRA Go Karts and our VRA Junior Classes in full programs of heats and main events. All the drivers in these classes are working hard to move up in the points as our season nears its completion.
VRA Midgets headline the night's action with fast and exciting hard fought racing that will crown the 2012 VRA Midget Champion. All the top VRA Midget drivers are back headed by point leader Cody Swanson coming off a strong second place run last week in the final ARP Battle at the Beach event won by David Prickett. Ronnie Gardner took the title of King of the Beach. Greg Edenholm, Wink Sweitzer, Ronnie Gardner and Randi Pankratz are all expected to be there to challenge Swanson for the season title. These racers will be racing in a series of heats and a wild 30 lap main event sure to keep the fans on the edge of their seats from start to finish.
VRA Senior Sprints are back led by point leader Cliff Warren who holds a very slim point lead over Victor Davis in the next to last race in their 2012 season. These over 45 year old racers always put on a great night of racing in their 360 sprint cars. So far in 2012, Davis has three wins, Douglass two wins and all time USAC star Wally Pankratz and Cliff Warren have one win each.
VRA Dwarf Cars will continue their season with racing in both Senior and Pro classes. In the Pros, the season point lead belongs to past champion Ray Estrada. He will be challenged by Randy Gordon, Luke Boles and Eric Moore and a host of top VRA Dwarf Car drivers. In Seniors, the point lead is held by Bill VanPraag. Challenging him will be George Calvo, Tom Stephens, Bob Kauffman and many others. These downsized sedans, coupes and trucks always put on an excellent night of tight hard fought competition.
VRA Mod Lites will be here to continue to race in this developing class of Dwarf Car sized modified racers. Last race winner Kevin Alverson will be going for two wins in a row against Mike Sweeney, Dave Dotson and the other drivers in this new class.
VRA Go Karts return to action on Ventura's big track Saturday night. Since moving from the infield track to the big oval the racing has been very exciting. Saturday's race should be no exception to the hard fought racing seen in the past races. Cody Nigh, Ashley Hazelton, Kenny Byers Jr, Justin Raper, Mike Evans and many others will be going for the win tonight. .
The final groups racing this weekend are our three kids classes. In Junior Midgets Devin McCree leads the class into action. In our Mini Dwarf Classes, multi race winners Blake Hendricks and Zack Chavez lead the Pistons into action while Nick Velasquez leads the Superchargers into competition tonight.
Throughout the month of October, Ventura Raceway is joining with Ribbons of Life, a local Ventura County charity which benefits those affected by breast cancer.
