Bryan Hulbert - Tulsa, Oklahoma (October 2, 2012) Over 200 nights of racing boil down to only a handful as the American Sprint Car Series begins to bring its regional events to a close. In total only 11 nights remain between the Canyon, Gulf South, Sooner, Southwest, and Warrior Regions.
Scheduled for competition this weekend, three regions will compete on Saturday October 6th.
Sooner / Warrior
The American Bank of Oklahoma and Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Regions will combine for a single night event at Springfield Raceway in Springfield, Missouri. After a combined points weekend with the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV at Wheatland’s Lucas Oil Speedway, the points lead has changed with Jonathan Cornell jumping ahead of Kyle Bellm by 22 markers.
Combining with the ASCS Sooner Region, the points could again see a major shake-up as the night’s finish will be split with each region’s drivers receiving points as if the regions were racing alone.
With the close battle raging with the Warrior Region, the Sooner Region is another story as Matt Covington looks to secure his second regional title of the year having already claimed the Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star title. With a healthy 204 point lead over defending champion Joe Wood Jr., the Glenpool, Oklahoma native will be the first driver to sweep the Sooner and Lone Star titles in a single season.
According to Springfieldraceway.com, Grandstand gates open at 4PM with hot laps starting at 5PM and racing gets underway at 6PM. Grandstand Admission is only $20 for Adults. Kids prices are $5 for 6-12 with under 6 Free.
Southwest
After his season started off a bit rough, Rick Ziehl has returned to form. With a trio of wins on the season, Ziehl holds a 117 point lead over Lance Norick who picked up his first ASCS win earlier this season at Aztec Speedway on September 2nd.
Returning to Peoria, Arizona’s Canyon Speedway Park for the final time in 2012 before joining the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV of the Western World Championships happening November 15th-17th, Ziehl’s last visit to the 1/3 mile clay oval resulted in a first and fifth place run that ultimately catapulted the No. 20z into the points lead.
According to Canyonspeedwaypark.com, Tickets for this Saturday night’s races at Canyon Speedway Park are $15, with a $2 discount for Military, Seniors, and Students. Children ages 7-12 are $6, with children 6 and under admitted free. VIP passes are available for $20.
