A Pair of Top-5s for Covington at Longdale

Matt Covington Racing - Glenpool, Ok. (May 24th, 2023) Matt Covington ended last weekend’s Walley Rodeo Roundup with 4th and 2nd place finishes aboard his Triple X/Outlaw Wings mount with the ASCS National Tour at Longdale Speedway.

Matt began Saturday night with a 3rd place group qualifying effort. The result set Matt outside row one of his heat, where he raced out front to grab the win. With a zero-inversion draw, Covington started the feature 4th. By race’s end, he still held onto the 4th position.

“We would have liked to have the podium Saturday, but it was still a good rebound from the last weekend of National Tour racing,” Matt commented. “I don’t think we had anything for the leaders, but I was just glad to have a clean race and get a top-5.”

Sunday night had the Keizer Wheels/Missile Motorsports machine starting from the outside pole in the heat race after another 3rd place group qualifying effort. Using it to his advantage, Matt jumped out front early and grabbed the win. These results granted Covington the 5th starting position in the feature. During the A, Matt moved around the top 5 where he rode the first part of the race. With a mid-race caution, Covington capitalized on the restart to charge into the 2nd position where he remained until the checkers.

“Sunday, we made some improvements and were better,” said Matt. “We were pretty good in the feature, but I got to searching and lost some ground late. I still feel we were a tad off speed-wise to contend for the win, but we’re definitely headed in the right direction.”

Next up for Matt and the team will be a three-night Memorial Day Holiday race weekend. The first night on Friday with be at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, before hitting Lake Ozark Speedway in Eldon, MO for a double event on Saturday and Sunday.
