Inside Line Promotions – BECHTELSVILLE, Pa. (May 16, 2023) – Joey Amantea enjoyed a solid weekend in two different types of race cars.
He recorded a runner-up result in a micro sprint on Friday at Linda’s Speedway in Jonestown, Pa., before capturing a fifth-place finish in a Rapid Tire USAC East Coast Sprint Cars show on Saturday at Grandview Speedway.
The action began on Friday with a run from sixth to fourth in a heat race at Linda’s Speedway. That garnered a spot in the feature redraw and Amantea drew the pole position for the A Main.
“I was happy to be back at Linda’s, a place I’ve always had success at,” he said. “Friday really stings because we had the car to beat. We led the first seven laps of the race. I believe on Lap 5 we had a front motor mount break. The engine moved back and loosened the chain, which caused it to skip on the gears. It made the car very loose and tough to handle. It didn’t allow me to shift gears either.
“I’m glad we salvaged a second-place finish. The chain stripped out all of the gears so I don’t think we would have lasted much longer.”
Amantea and his team switched to non-wing sprint car competition on Saturday at Grandview Speedway, where a charge from sixth to third place in a heat race earned a spot into the feature redraw. Amantea plucked the No. 8 to line up on the outside of the fourth row in the main event.
“We had brake issues we were fighting all night,” he said. “We got them fixed for the feature after changing brake systems two times with the help of some friends and competitors. We didn’t have much time to set the car up for the feature because of that. We kind of winged it. We were decent, but just needed the brake issue not to happen so we could have focused on the track.”
The fifth-place outing was Amantea’s fourth top five of the season.
Next up for the team is a USAC East Coast Sprint Cars race on Friday at Clinton County Speedway in Mill Hall, Pa., where Amantea made his debut last year. He won a heat race before finishing fifth in the feature.
