Matt Covington Racing (May 10th, 2023) Rolling into Lucas Oil Speedway for the Impact Signs Open Wheel Regional Showdown between the ASCS Warrior and Sooner regions, Matt Covington parked the Triple X/Fisher Racing Engines No. 95 in Victory Lane.
Covington started the night off with a heat race win from the fourth position. The result landed him in the re-draw where Matt pulled the pole position for the feature aboard his Reece Construction/KSE Racing Products Machine.
With the drop of the green, Matt jumped out to an early lead. Chance Morton made it interesting in lap traffic, trailing close behind. But as the checkers flew the Keizer Wheels/Outlaw Wings mount led start to finish, claiming back-to-back victories following the previous week’s regional win at Legit Speedway Park.
"I love this place. There's been some driver error and some unlucky racing things happen. Probably more my fault than not. It feels good to get the win here. It's one of the places that I've been wanting to knock off the bucket list,” said Covington in his track interview. He later commented, “When you have success in the heats and get a chance to start out front in these races, you need to capitalize the best you can. I felt pressured by Chance as we got into lap traffic and thought about changing my line. The bottom looked like it was coming in down in turns three and four, but the top was still good, too. I really wanted that win. We hit these regional shows because we struggled with the National tour and wanted to give ourselves more time to find the speed we needed. My buddy Vern has really helped me with support and setups, and it’s been showing. Hopefully we can carry this momentum into the next stretch of National races coming up. Thanks to our sponsors and supporters, we have the equipment to do that, which we really appreciate.”
Scheduled this weekend are two ASCS National Tour races at Electric City Speedway and Moberly Motorsports Park for Covington and the team.
