(Oxnard, Ca., Cliff Morgan, 9-19-12) Ventura Raceway returns to action Saturday night September 22 with a full program of exciting racing action at its Ventura County Fairgrounds facility. This night will feature our VRA Sprint Cars, VRA Dwarf Cars, California Lightning Sprints, Mod Lites and our three kid's classes. All the drivers in each class will be going all out to score points to see who will be on top in the season long point's race when racing concludes in November.
VRA 360 Sprints are back after a week off to resume their highly competitive form of all out racing action. Battling at speeds up to 80 mph around Ventura's tight 1/5 mile oval always keeps fans on the edge of their seats. Last race winner Clark Templeman III and point leader Kyle Smith lead the field into tonight's racing. Smith leads Clark Templeman III after nine previous events in their 2012 season. Brian Camarillo, Tom Hendricks, John Nock follow Smith and Templeman in the point race. All the other top VRA stars are expected to be here to try to move up in the point race.
VRA Dwarf cars are back to continue their season long battle to see who will come out on top of the two classes racing. In Seniors, Bill VanPraag leads Tom Stephens Sr. by 50 points while in Pros Ray Estrada leads Luke Boles by 80 points after four races. With over 30 Dwarf cars expected to compete this week we expect the racing to be top notch.
California Lightning Sprints make their only 2012 season appearance Saturday night. These fast winged midget size cars always put on an exciting brand of racing when they race here. They normally race at Perris Auto Speedway.
The final adult class racing this week is our new Mod Lite class. Mike Sweeney leads Dave Dotson in the point race by 100 points after six races in their 2012 season. This new class is in its second season and as it grows in car count we can expect some exciting racing action.
Our three VRA Kid's divisions are back to entertain our fans as well. VRA Mini Dwarf Pistons and Mini Dwarf Superchargers will be racing as will our Junior Midgets. Point leaders Nick Velasquez in Superchargers and Devin McCree in Junior Midgets will resume their battle to try to take their respective series championships. Drivers in the Piston class do not race for points so there is no point leader. Blake Hendricks has won three races, Garett Egan two races, Zack Chavez and Andrew Orlando one each of the seven races.
Musical entertainment throughout the night will be provided by Cruise Control, playing up their favorite hits. Pit gates will open at 12 noon with front gates opening at 3:00. Cars go on the track for warm ups and preliminaries at 3:30 with racing getting under way at 5:30. Admission prices for this event are $14.00 for adults, $11.00 for Seniors, Military and Juniors. Kids 12 and under are free. For more information, please call Ventura Raceway at 805-985-5433 Monday through Friday and 805-648-RACE on raceday.
