The final weekend of April found Cole Vanderheiden embarking on a pair of IMCA RaceSaver Sprint Car events in Nebraska and South Dakota.
Action opened on Saturday evening at Eagle (Neb.) Raceway, where 32 entries crowded into the pit area. Cole drew the second-starting spot for his heat race and despite slipping to a fourth-place finish, locked into the 13th-startings pot for the night's finale.
In the caution-free feature Vanderheiden turned several clean laps before crossing the finish line in 18th.
On Sunday evening, the team traveled north to Interstate Speedway (Jefferson, S.D.). Thirteen Sprinters were on hand for the program, and Cole earned the 12th-starting spot via heat race action.
The 20-lap finale found Vanderheiden advancing to a ninth-place finish.
