Saturday night September 15 will see Ventura Raceway in action with exciting racing action featuring VRA Midgets, IMCA Modifieds, VRA Sport Compacts, VRA Quads, QRC Karts on the infield track and for the first time in 2012 NMRA TQ Midgets. These racers will all be going all out to try to improve their season point standings as our season winds down. Racing will begin at 5:30 PM at Ventura's Ventura County Fairground track.
VRA Midgets are returning to continue their season of hard fought, close racing. Returning drivers will be racing to see who will come out on top of the points race in the VRA Midget Series standings. We hope to see most of our top drivers back tonight to compete for the season championship that was won by Cory Kruseman in 2011. The class will compete in a series of 8 lap heats, semi mains as needed and a 30 lap feature. Wins so far in 2012 have gone to Greg Edenholm, Cory Kruseman and Danny Ebberts and last race winner Ronnie Gardner. Gardner took the win at the 2012 FAIR race on August 1, and the last race on August 25. He will be back Saturday night to go for his fourth win for the season and third race in a row in this highly competitive series. He currently leads the point race in this division by 45 points over Cody Swanson and 55 points over Greg Edenholm.
IMCA Modifieds return to action with point leader Jack Parker leading them into competition. So far Parker leads Brad Prows, Mark Davis and Wayne Heurung in the season point race after 10 races. All these drivers will be out to make their moves in the season long point battle which will end on September 29.
Saturday night we will welcome the QRC Karts back to competition at Ventura Raceway. These small winged racers will race on the infield track. Their first race a few weeks ago was an excellent and highly competitive one and Saturday night's race should be no exception. We hope that you will enjoy these new competitors at Ventura Raceway.
VRA Sport Compacts are back to resume their season. Point leader Zack Peterson leads the field into competition. The 2012 FAIR race went to Trevor Fitzgibbon over Zack Peterson and point leader Carlucci. Peterson came back to take the win on August 25 moving him into the season point lead over Jess Carlucci by 25 points..
VRA Quads are also on the card Saturday. This new division races in two classes Sportsman and Open on the 1/5 mile oval. They have put on several very good, exciting races since beginning he season. David knight leads in the Quad Open Division and Brian Hudnell leads in the Sportsman Division.
The final group racing tonight is the NMRA TQ Midgets. These racers will be competing in the Ron Otto Memorial race. TQs were a fixture in Ventura's early history and their return tonight should provide the fans with some exciting open wheel racing.
