A total of 41 nights of racing remain with the ASCS Regions in 2012. Of the ten ASCS regions, this weekend will see five competing for a combined seven events.
Canyon Region:
After taking a month off to allow the summer heat to begin moving through, the ASCS Non-Wing Canyon Region will see competition at Arizona Speedway/ET Motor Park in Apache Junction, AZ this Saturday September 8th. Charles Davis Jr. currently leads the standings by seven after taking the point from R.J. Johnson following his win on July 28th at Canyon Speedway Park.
In their fifth scheduled appearance at the Arizona oval, rain claimed the July 14th date. In the three previous dates contested, there have been three different winners with Charles Davis Jr. taking the win on April 14th. Josh Pelkey claimed his lone win of the season on May 12th with Ronnie Clark victorious on June 2nd.
Lone Star Region:
The Oil Medics ASCS Lone Star Region will close out their 2012 campaign this Friday September 7th and Saturday September 8th at Texarkana’s Sixty-Seven Speedway. Looking to make it back to back championships Glenpool, Oklahoma’s Matt Covington leads by 108 markers over Martin Edwards who holds a comfortable 112 point advantage of Claud Estes III.
After rain shortened the regions last visit on July 13th and 14th to a single day affair, it was Covington who grabbed the win over Edwards and Gulf South Region regular Aaron Reutzel.
Midwest Region:
Making their final appearance at Junction Motor Speedway on Saturday September 8th and Eagle Raceway on Sunday September 9th, the Speedway Motors ASCS Midwest Region will set the stage for the final championship run that concludes September 21st and 22nd with the Fall Brawl at I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, Nebraska.
Out of contention following an on track injury, current Midwest point’s leader Stu Snyder will see Jordan Boston and Jack Dover now in the hunt of the 2012 crown. Leading the defending Midwest champion by 48, Jordan Boston looks to secure his first ASCS Championship while Dover seeks his third since 2008.
Looking at the season history between Junction Motor Speedway and Eagle, the McCool Junction facility has hosted the Midwest Region twice this season with Ryan Roberts and Jack Dover each finding victory lane.
At Eagle four previous visits this season shows three drivers have capturing the checkered flag with Kaley Gharst doing so on April 20th before NASCAR Sprint Cup Champion Tony Stewart thrilled the Nebraska fans on April 21st. The Eagle Nationals held on June 9th and 10th was all about Brady Bacon as the Oklahoma driver swept the TBJ Promotions event.
Sprints on Dirt:
Scheduled for a single night of competition this Friday September 7th, the Engine Pro Sprints on Dirt presented by ARP returns to Hartford Motor Speedway. After rains washed out the June 1st date at the Michigan oval, the forecast still shows a chance of rain for this Friday’s event which is the final before the Sprints on Dirt head north to the Canadian Sprint Car Nationals at Ohsweken Speedway.
Warrior Region:
The Speedway Motors ASCS Warrior Region will make their third Valley Speedway appearance of the 2012 season on Friday September 7th.
Kicking off the 2012 season at the Grain Valley, Missouri facility on April 13th, it was Jonathan Cornell who grabbed the win. Currently second in points with three wins on the season, Cornell sits only 23 points behind Nixa, Missouri’s Kyle Bellm who raced to a fourth place finish at the season opener followed by a third against the Lucas Oil ASCS presented by MAVTV on May 23rd.
Stories and results from this weekend’s regional events will be posted as soon as possible. For more information on the American Sprint Car Series log onto www.ascsracing.com.
